| Abstract: 19 species (three of the endemics for Turkey) (S. italica (L.) Pers., S. viridiflora, L., S. marschalli C. A. Meyer, S. olympica Boiss., S. chlorifolia Sm., S. paphlagonica Bornm., S. otites (L.) Wibel, S. cappadocica Boiss. and Heldr., S. spergulifolia (Desf.) Bieb., S. supina Bieb. subsp. pruinosa (Boiss.) Chowd., S. sangaria Coode and Cullen, S. vulgaris (Moench.) Garcke var. vulgaris, S. rhynchocarpa Boiss., S. compacta Fischer, S. alba (Miller) Krause subsp. eriocalycina (Boiss.) Walters, S. noctiflora L., S. dichotoma Ehrh. subsp. sibthorpiana (Reichb.) Reich., S. gallica L., S. bellidifolia Jacq.) that belong to 12 sections have been found as a result of investigation between the years 1989 and 1993. The chromosomes of each species are observed by the method of aceto-orcein applied in root tips. The microdrawings of somatic chromosomes, their karyograms and idiograms are also involved. The chromosome number was found that in 15 species 2n = 24, in 4 species 2n = 48 and based on X = 12. The average to chromosome length is between 1-4.548 mu-m. In addition, sex chromosomes of dioic species (S. otites and S. alba subsp. eriocalycina) are noticed. |
