  • Fact Sheets for NBII Nodes & Projects

Nodes are interconnected access points to data and information on the NBII network. Multiple partners contribute data, information, expertise, and infrastructure towards the development of each node. Regional nodes have a geographic orientation, and represent a regional and local approach to data issues and needs. Thematic nodes focus on a particular biological discipline or issue, and provide the support and infrastructure to address these issues at multiple geographic scales.

Projects, while not Congressionally-designated NBII nodes, represent important sub-regions or emerging issues that require an early and sustained focus to build the partnerships and infrastructure necessary for sharing and accessing data and information by stakeholders.

NBII Breaks New Ground in Data Collection and Verification

The Central Southwest / Gulf Coast Information Node (CSWGCIN) is working with Big Bend National Park and the U.S. Army's Fort Hood to implement hand-held pocket PCs and ArcPad software for fast, accurate, easy, and cost-effective data collection in the field. CSWGCIN has produced a fact sheet on this project.
