A "new pest advisory" RE: ohia rust (
Puccinia psidii
), a rust which which affects the native Hawaiian forest tree ohia (
Metrosideros polymorpha
) and many other species in the myrtle family (Myrtaceae), was issued by the Hawaii Department of Agriculture.
This rust has wide host range including eucalyptus, paperbark tree, guava, rose apple, allspice, jaboticaba, Surinam cherry, species of
Eugenia
, and others in the family Myrtaceae.
In other parts of the world, the rust is referred to as eucalyptus rust or guava rust.
