Invasive species information for Hawaii and the Pacific


Mission:
The mission of the  Hawaiian Ecosystems at Risk project (HEAR) is to provide technology, methods, and information to decision-makers, resource managers, and the general public to help support effective science-based management of harmful non-native species in Hawaii and the Pacific.

HEAR disseminates and archives information on its website ( www. hear .org ).
Funding:
HEAR is currently funded by the Pacific Basin Information Node ( PBIN ) of the National Biological Information Infrastructure ( NBII ) through the  Pacific Island Ecosystems Research Center  ( PIERC ) ( (External) USGS ) with support from (External) Hawaii Cooperative Studies Unit ( (External) UH-Hilo ). Historically, HEAR has also received funding and/or support from (External) PCSU  ( (External) UH ) and (External) HALE ( (External) NPS ). More details are available online.

Pacific Basin Information Node (PBIN)
Origin/history:
HEAR originated at the USGS/BRD's Haleakala Field Station (Maui, Hawaii) of the  Pacific Island Ecosystems Research Center (PIERC) of the (External) U.S. Geological Survey 's Biological Resources Division (formerly the National Biological Service) through the (External) Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU) based at the (External) University of Hawaii Department of Botany .
