Featured species
Little fire ant (LFA)
little fire ant (LFA) (Wasmannia auropunctata)
The
little fire ant (LFA)
(
Wasmannia auropunctata
) is HEAR's featured species because of its painful stings, which leave welts that can last for weeks.
It can cause problems for people, pets, agriculture (e.g., coffee plantations), and has impacts on native species (e.g., birds).
