This follows a review of our message boards across BBC Radio, in particular how they relate to programmes on the air and whether they represent value for money. At the BBC we are constantly working to ensure that licence-fee payers’ money is used to provide distinctive, innovative services with a high public value. In the last year at Radio 1 we have made improvements to the Radio Player, introduced blogs and podcasts to the site and offered live music video via the red button and online. It is important for us to focus interactivity to make the best possible use of the resources available to us. There are obviously hundreds of alternative places on the web where people can chat among themselves and this is unfortunately no longer a service Radio 1 can offer.Although General Chat is closing, we hope that members of the Radio 1 online community will continue to enjoy posting on our boards and that this will encourage the other topics to develop with more valuable content for you and the DJs.If you would prefer to continue talking on a general chat type board, during the next week, we’re happy for you to post links to external message boards outside the BBC (house rules permitting).
