Given the amount of legislation with regard to the labeling on what we put in our mouths, it's about time there were some rules about what goes into our ears. My proposal is that it should be a legal requirement to advise us, the listening public, whether performances are actually live, mimed or part-mimed. So when you see a 'live' performance' that is obviously mimed or part mimed (we know who you are) it cannot be introduced as a 'live' performance. I am going to write a review of each of the songs on my iPod and post it here.Feel free to ignore me, disagree with everything, ridicule me or accuse me of meglamania for thinking anyone would even want to read it. In my defence though, I just really, really love music, and writing nonsense, and this is a good opportunity to combine the two.I will try to post one song every weekday, no guarantees but I'll see how I get on. The posts will be in alphabetical order of song, and will take about 5 years to complete if I keep it up(!) I've already done the first few to give me a head start. Here is post number one:A-Punk by Vampire WeekendI have a lot of really quite old music and not so much that’s very new, so this seems a strange place to start. Not only was it only released this year, but as it wasn’t a hit and the follow up, Oxford Comma, was, it is due to be re-released as a single next month. So I am writing about it slightly ahead of the reviewers who make a living out of being first. For me, this one was truly an internet phenomenon. I noticed it in the bottom of the iTunes top 100 early this year, and after playing the 30 second clip several times was sufficiently fascinated to purchase the whole thing. (This was before I realised you could hear a whole song and watch the video by typing the title into Youtube – I am still getting to grips with the post CD single era.)The song itself is an absolute gem. I have no idea who Vampire Weekend are or what they’re going on about, but A-Punk is incredibly catchy and sounds like absolutely nothing else around at the moment. It seems a guitar that sounds like it only has 3 strings, strange sub-aqua type noises that sound like a TV theme to a show I’ve never watched, and indecipherable lyrics that sound a bit Latin even though they’re English is a good combination, although goodness knows how they worked that out. For me this was the sound of Summer 2008, hopefully for lots of other people it’ll be the sound of Autumn. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbradio1/F2675884?thread=5949638&latest=1#p88863465 2009-11-23T12:44:44 Taylor Swift on Children In Need She donated £13,000 http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbradio1/F2675884?thread=7093542&latest=1#p88862476 2009-11-23T12:30:08 John and Edward Do you reckon they will win? http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbradio1/F2675884?thread=7052278&latest=1#p88855420 2009-11-23T10:30:29 Today's Show OK 40 songs in 3 hours - approximately 10 every 45 minutes.... Most of them are just run of the mill 'let's try and make it sound epic even though it's average' type songs though. There is a song on it that is hilariously bad. It's a reputation ruiner I think as it seems to specifically aimed at the Europop market. Either that or the producers are trying to hard to have a quirky song on there but it's a complete tragedy of a tune, one of the worst ever. It's called 'Outta My Head' http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbradio1/F2675884?thread=7067656&latest=1#p88598934 2009-11-17T16:16:52 UP YOUR VIVA! Who is fed up if random people shouting/saying ''UP YOUR VIVA''? ESPECIALLY IN YOUR FACE! Fair enough the advert is funny but its getting like the ''Calm Down Dear! Theres this group on youtube called chartjackers thats trying to raise money for children in need.Through youtube they've managed to create a song and video just using peoples ideas and help. The song is called i've got nothing and is relatively 80's themed. So far thousands have bought it and it is currently 22nd in the itunes most downloaded.Unfortunately Radio 1 don't believe that it fits with the music they usually play. Its for charity and so how does that really matter? They could at least play it a few times and see what response they get. What do you think? http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbradio1/F2675884?thread=7077487&latest=1#p88514829 2009-11-15T16:36:06 Bon Jovi met Fearne? She also opened the show with Forever And Always and later on returned Garth Brooks style in the audience singing her new single Fifteen, with the crowd singing along on every word.Of course, this has been totally ignored by the British media (Sure they didn't have enough time to put it in the papers but at least BBC News online could have had something up).I'd also like to know why Taylor isn't included in the adverts for Children In Need - you'd think they'd want a worldwide star in there to pull in the ratings (and raise more money), but no.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbradio1/F2675884?thread=7073769&latest=1#p88432492 2009-11-13T15:40:12 Guess who's back!
