BBC Daytime: Surprising television for a smart audience.
We've worked hard over the last few years to give audiences a much broader range of programmes and we're now aiming to push the boundaries even further.
No subjects are off limits for the daytime audience as long as we do them in a way which really engages viewers.
Missing Live
Cash in the Celebrity Attic
We're always looking for big ideas - bold concepts or striking talent that can deliver a knockout punch in the mornings on BBC ONE, the busiest time for our viewers. To Buy or Not to Buy , Homes Under the Hammer , Cash in the Attic and Bargain Hunt all pull in a large share of the audience.
We've had great success at 9.15 with a wide range of observational series and event-led programming. Missing Live , The Estate We're In , Helicopter Heroes , Don't Get Done Get Dom , Real Rescues and Animal 24/7 are just some of the programmes that have worked well here.
BBC TWO afternoon viewers want to be entertained. Programmes that perform well here include Flog It! , Escape to the Country and Cash in the Celebrity Attic .
Daytime also commissions the 18.00 - 19.00 slot on BBC TWO. This is a busy, transient time in most households so we need programmes that catch the attention of the whole family. Successes in this slot include Great British Menu , Extreme Dreams , Eggheads , Strictly Come Dancing - It Takes Two and Masterchef .
Ambition and originality are key to Daytime. Across the day we are looking for bold, clear concepts which capture a mass audience.
Daytime is constantly exploring new ideas and territories. Examples of success include our critically acclaimed series The Estate We're In and Missing Live .
Early evening on BBC TWO we need to provide a compelling alternative to the news. Shows need to provide enough substance for the older viewers who are settling for the evening but not be too challenging for people who are winding down after a busy day at work. Ambitious series like Great British Menu and Ben Fogle's series Extreme Dreams have worked well here.
Audiences
The daytime audience is incredibly diverse in terms of income, age and interests, and up to 40% of the audience is male.
Ideas have to capture the imagination of the young mother, retired person and shift worker.
