Proteus is a system that will eventually be a "one stop shop" for all programme-related information for BBC Audio & Music. The commissioning process is already managed in Proteus. When a network invites programme proposals it will require them to be submitted in Proteus unless otherwise specified. Any independent production company must therefore have access to Proteus before it can submit a programme proposal. Proteus is accessible via the internet.

New suppliers must first talk to the network that they wish to supply. If the network is interested in receiving programme proposals from that supplier, the company should forward an e-mail from the network confirming this to gerardina.carbone@bbc.co.uk with their contact details including postal address. A contract setting out the terms on which access is made available will be sent and when it is signed the company will be given access to Proteus.

A Proteus Commissioning Training Guide is available.
