General Guidance

  • All interactive transmissions must be agreed with BBC New Media and confirmed by a New Media project manager.
  • Programmes delivering for the Interactive Streams must deliver on the same formats, and with the same paperwork, as the main programme.
  • All interactive tapes must pass Transmission Review
  • Interactive programmes have the same Topicality Status (what is this? check here ) as their linear counterparts. However, compilations or repeats, which are running as part of a live interactive stream, should deliver as non-topical programmes.

    Separate Billings Forms are not currently required for material on the Interactive Streams, but reference to any interactivity connected with a billed programme should be listed under ’Points to Note’ see here for example

    A Transmission Form is required for every separate tape which is delivered for transmission - these should be submitted for the interactive version of the equivalent linear channel - ie BBC ONEi, BBC TWOi, etc.

    The production team supplying the interactive content are responsible for completing PasC's referencing the content of the interactive streams alongside the content of the linear programme .

    A separate music reporting form is required where the use of the music is not the same as the linear programme and would need to be coded differently e.g. pop videos available via the interactive service whereas the linear programme is showing a live performance.

    "Enhanced" Interactive Programmes
    Programmes which are made to 'enhance' a linear channel - that is, they are not standalone programmes, but are made as 'side offerings' to the main transmission - must be clocked and delivered with the same Programme ID Number as the main linear programme, however, a suffix/Production Code in the 91 range must be used.

    This ensures that the material, which is unlikely to ever transmit without the main programme, is archived / retrieved together with the main linear programme.

    These 'enhanced' programmes must be made to exactly the same timecode and duration as the linear programme they mirror.
    "Stand-alone" Interactive Programmes
    Programmes which can be stand-alone i.e. compilations, previous transmissions, or even specially made programmes for the interactive audience - but which don't have to be forever associated with the linear stream - should deliver as any other programme, with a unique Programme ID Number and suffix/Production Code in the 71-79 range as appropriate.
