A photo of me won an award

Press Packer Rosie with award winning photographer Paul Floyd Blake and her photo

Press Packer Rosie is a swimmer who's aiming to represent Great Britain in the Paralympics in 2012. A photo of her won a top award.

Here's her story.

"I was born with half my right leg missing. I'm a swimmer, training hard and I hope to be in the Paralympics in 2012.

I started swimming when I was about five or six in but didn't start competing at a club level until I was 11.

Young athletes

I first swam at Nationals when I was about 12 or 13 and then I got recognised by the National Talent Squad.

In 2007, a photographer, Paul Floyd Blake, who was doing work on young athletes aiming for 2012, contacted me and asked if he could photograph me every year leading up to 2012.

Kept laughing

He has taken two pictures so far, both right after a race.

I loved having my photo taken!!

It was really fun but it was hard because he wanted me to look serious and I kept laughing and smiling!!

And then the photo he took last year was entered for an international prize, the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize and became one of four finalists out of over 6,000.

Nerve-wracking

We went to the National Portrait gallery in London for the awards evening.

It was very exciting; I bought a new dress and got my hair done which I loved.

It was an exciting night but quite nerve-wracking, especially when we were waiting for them to announce the winner.

When we found out that the photo of me had won it was amazing. Paul was thrilled of course and we were very happy for him.

Achieve my goal

This whole experience has been wonderful and I'm looking forward to having the next picture taken.

I'm having a great time swimming and really hope I can achieve my goal of representing my country at the Paralympics one day."

Rosie, 14, Oxfordshire
