MPs expenses 'should be cut'

Houses of Parliament

A report on how much extra cash Members of Parliament are allowed to help them do their jobs has been released.

There has been a big row over the money MPs get for things like second homes and employing people to work for them - called expenses.

The report, written by Sir Christopher Kelly, says expenses should be cut, and that MPs shouldn't be able to give jobs to people who are related to them.

The leaders of all three main parties have said MPs should accept the report.

A group called the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority will look at the report and decide whether the changes it suggests will be brought in.

Some of the main suggestions in Sir Christopher's report include banning MPs who live near London claiming cash for a second home, and reducing the amount of cash MPs get for transport.
