Fastest man adopts fastest animal

Usain Bolt and Lightening Bolt

Usain and his cheetah pal

Usain Bolt, the world record-holding sprinter, has adopted the world's fastest land animal, a baby cheetah.

The Jamaican sprinter has sponsored a three-month-old male cheetah as part of an effort to help protect wildlife in the African country Kenya.

He paid £8,500 to adopt the cub, and will chip in £1,800 a year to carry on looking after it.

And the speedy chap has named his new cub in style - it's now known as Lightning Bolt.

The money will go to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), and some will be used to protect Kenya's endangered species.

Usain might be confident on track, but he wasn't so brave when he was asked to pet a fully grown cheetah for a photo shoot on Monday.

The track star nearly ran away, until he saw that the cheetah was harmless.
