Press Packer Charlotte entered a competition for children with diabetes and won the chance to make her dream come true!

"I have had Type 1 Diabetes since I was six years old. That means that I have to have about four injections of insulin a day and lots of blood glucose tests to keep me healthy.

I love singing and dancing and every week I go to ballet, tap, jazz, acro and modern dance classes.

Last year I entered the a competition which my mum had noticed in a magazine.

The competition gives people with diabetes a chance to win a grant to make their dreams come true.

My dream was to plan and take part in a musical with all my friends from my dance school and for the money to be used to pay for the theatre, costumes, scenery, lights and theatre workshops.

I also wanted to send local children with diabetes a free invite to the show and raise a lot of money for charity from the sale of the tickets and programmes.

When I found my entry had won the competition I could not believe it. My family was invited to the winners ceremony in the Tower of London where I was presented with a cheque for £10,000 by TV doctor Dr Hilary Jones and met lots of nice people involved with the competition.

I also received a weekend in London and £200 spending money. It was fantastic.

The muscial

For the past 11 months I have been helping to plan the show with my dance teachers and decided to pick Disney's Alice in Wonderland Junior.

The auditions were held in June and I was picked to play Tweedle Dum and my sister got the part of one of the Cheshire Cats.

We have been going to show rehearsals every weekend for the last five months. It was great fun and a lot of hard work.

The musical was staged at Middlesbrough Theatre on 18 and 19 October. The cast were all very excited before the performances and the show was fantastic.

I loved every minute and the audience loved it too. It was great that all my friends helped to make my dream come true and raise lots of money for Diabetes UK."
