Five arrested close to G20 hotel

fairmont hotel The G20 finance ministers are meeting at the Fairmont Hotel

Five people have been arrested following an attempt to block traffic flow outside the hotel where G20 finance ministers are meeting.

Ministers of the 20 leading world economies are meeting in St Andrews, Fife, for the two-day summit.

A police patrol discovered the group at about 1900 GMT, close to the Fairmont Hotel, on the outskirts of the town, where the ministers are staying.

Fife police said the incident was brought to a close "very quickly".

A police spokesman said: "Safety is paramount in these situations and this was uppermost on officers' minds.

"Fife Constabulary will facilitate peaceful and lawful protests, but when conduct becomes dangerous, and/or criminal, we will respond professionally and without delay."
