Street star questioned over crash

Ryan Thomas Ryan Thomas has played Jason Grimshaw for nine years

Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas has been questioned by police over a car crash in Manchester city centre.

The 25-year-old, who plays Jason Grimshaw in the ITV1 soap, was spoken to by officers over the crash in the early hours of last Saturday.

He is believed to have been in a Chrysler which struck a lamppost.

Another man has been charged with driving while under the influence of drink or drugs in connection with the accident, police said.

No charges

Mr Thomas was not charged in connection with the crash, which happened at the junction of Chester Street and Oxford Road.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "The officer who attended found a Chrysler motor vehicle had collided with a lamp post.

"A man was charged with Section 5 of the Road Traffic Act.

"A 25-year-old man was interviewed by police on Friday 6 November."

Mr Thomas joined Coronation Street in 2000.

He lives with his former co-star Tina O'Brien, who played his wife Sarah-Louise Platt in the soap. The couple have a daughter.
