Germany is preparing to mark the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall with a series events and ceremonies.

Heidemarie Ehwald lived in former communist East Berlin and her flat overlooked the Wall.

She describes watching East German authorities blow up a church in the border strip outside her home, and finding out that there was an escape tunnel next door.
