Elizabeth Truss said she was open and honest when she submitted her CV

A Conservative candidate facing de-selection for not telling her local party about an affair has said she was "open" and "honest" about her actions.

Elizabeth Truss said she disclosed the affair in her CV to the national party and despite the row still wants to be the MP for South West Norfolk.

She said: "I made it absolutely clear to the Conservative Party about my past and expected that to be passed on."

Members of her local Conservative Association said they were not told.

Vote on future

Speaking about the extra-marital affair she had with a Conservative MP four years ago, Ms Truss told the BBC: "It's been public for some years now.

"I am really sorry about that [affair], it's a mistake I made and as far as me and my husband are concerned it's water under the bridge.

"It's more an issue about communication within the party."

Some party members have questioned her suitability for the position.

The South West Norfolk Conservative Association will vote on her future on 16 November.
