Guide To The Orchestra
trombone title image The trombone is great fun to watch and to play! It is held with one hand while the other hand moves the slide backwards and forwards. The trombonist makes different notes by changing the shape of their lips, how hard they blow and by moving the slide - all at the same time!

Mark Eager Meet the Orchestra! Mark Eager playes the trombone with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Read about him below. Mark Eager, Trombone How old were you when you first started playing? I was seven. Why did you choose this instrument? My Grandfather played the 'G' trombone with a slide so long you need a handle to be able to reach the end. As a young boy this was awesome! Do you play any other instruments? The piano. What do you like most about playing in an orchestra? Being able to produce beautiful music on a grand scale in some wonderful settings. I find the experience deeply moving and intensely enjoyable. Do you play any other kind of music? Piano accompaniment to my children singing and playing in all styles. What is your favourite music? I like the music of composers like Brahms, Mahler, Puccini, Britten - oh, and Elton John! Do you have any other hobbies? Triathlon - swimming, cycling and running. I've competed for Great Britain at two World Championships in the 'veteran' category.
