Sick Sir Elton is out of hospital

Sir Elton John Sir Elton John had been touring with Billy Joel

Singer Sir Elton John has been released from a London hospital after being treated for flu and E. coli, a spokesman for the star has said.

Gary Farrow said the 62-year-old, best known for hits such as Rocket Man and Candle In The Wind, was now at home and was feeling fine.

The musician was forced to postpone a number of gigs over the last few weeks.

Mr Farrow said Sir Elton planned to resume his live duties alongside Billy Joel in California on 14 November.

Sir Elton and Joel had been playing together on their Face 2 Face tour, selling out arenas across the US over the summer - although Joel was also forced to pull out of some concerts due to ill health in July.

After succumbing to influenza two weeks ago, Sir Elton was forced to postpone concerts in London, Liverpool, Sheffield, Newcastle and Dublin.

The latter was to have been the closing date on his Red Piano world tour.

Following his admission to hospital, the singer was advised to postpone three further gigs in the US with Billy Joel.

Promoters say they are hoping to reschedule the European dates for December.

Details of plans to reschedule the US concerts, on 4 and 7 November at Seattle's Key Arena and 10 November at Rose Garden Arena, Portland, are yet to be announced.
