About BBC Learning

Learning and the BBC

BBC Learning plays a central part in meeting the BBC's purpose of promoting education and learning. We do this by offering a portfolio of resources and activities for children, teachers, parents and adult learners. These make use of the best of the BBC - its content, its channels of communication, its talent and creative skills.

The BBC's history in education and learning goes back more than 80 years, beginning with schools radio broadcasts in 1924 and later expanding into television for both schools and adults. Today, the spread of broadband internet and evolving mobile devices enables us to reach large numbers of people of all ages in ways that could not have been imagined in the past. We can help individuals to learn in their own time and at their own pace with our interactive learning projects.

Our resources are designed to complement the formal education process and, in particular, to support the development of specific skills, often curriculum-related.

We also encourage active participation in learning in the widest sense. Working with partners and in local communities, we aim to stimulate interests inspired by broadcast programmes through a variety of campaigns .
