Video and Audio News Releases

Introduction

Audio and Video News Releases are a means by which official bodies, commercial companies and campaigning organisations seek to gain exposure for activities or issues, by supplying broadcasters with ready-made programme content. They may take the form of a feature, interview material or pictures and may have been produced by the organisation itself, or by production companies acting on its behalf.

This guidance applies to the use of Audio and Video News Releases and other material supplied by outside organisations. It advises on appropriate actions and considerations when the use of such material is editorially justified.

It should be read in conjunction with Section 3: Accuracy - Material from Outside Sources and, where applicable Section 6: Privacy - CCTV, webcams and other material from outside sources .

This Editorial Policy Advice Note was first produced on 5 May 2005.
